Subject: URGENT: Notification Assistance with Fire Department Roster and Relief Fund BTR Certifications

Good afternoon,

The North Carolina State Firefighters’ Association is asking for your assistance in contacting the Fire Chiefs in your county that appear in the attached spreadsheet, regarding the certification of their membership roster and their relief fund board of trustee’s report (BTR). To date, there are 658 departments that have not certified their 2023 roster and/or their relief fund BTR. They have until midnight on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 to certify their roster and BTR.

Failing to certify the roster may cause the individual fire department members, who have completed the required 36 hours of training, from receiving a year of creditable service in the NC Fire and Rescue Pension Fund.  Immediately following the roster submission, the Fire Chief will be able to certify their relief fund BTR.  Failing to certify the BTR will disqualify a department from receiving their relief fund allocation and distribution the following year.

Attached is the Excel list of departments sorted by county that have not certified their 2023 roster and/or relief fund BTR.
