RE: Fit Testing N-95- First Responders

Please see below message from NCOEM:

I have received questions regarding N-95 re-use after fit testing. Based on previous guidance by OSHA, used N-95 masks were to be disposed of. This mandate was understood to include fit testing. OSHA has stated during this event that agencies “should implement qualitative fit testing to assess adequacy of a respirator fit to minimize destruction of N-95 respirator used in fit testing and allow for limited re-use”. Plainly stated, if the mask isn’t damaged during fit testing, it can be re-used. I respectfully ask that you forward this information to local emergency management and fire chiefs statewide.
